Heart of Christmas Kids Advent Devotional Day 8

NOTE: These devotional will mainly be verses and questions. My goal is to ensure that my children understand the meaning of the verse and it how it relates to the true celebration of Christmas. I will listen to their response and lead our discussion based on their thoughts, so in reality the questions may change. I will base my responses on their level of understanding of the verse we are discussing. We will then hang the ornament depicted each day on our special little tree.

See my original post detailing the inspiration behind my Heart of Christmas Devotional HERE!

Day 8 – The Angel and Mary Part One

Today's Verse:

"But the angel said to her, 'Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.'"
(Luke 1:30-33, NIV)

Who is Mary's baby?

How does this verse describe her baby?

Let's take a look at a prophetic verse in the Old Testament.

"For unto us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
(Isaiah 9:6, NIV)

Do you see some similarities between these two verses? Let's compare them.

This prophecy was fulfilled in Jesus!

Praise God that Jesus came to earth so that we could spend forever in heaven with him!

Memory Verse

Let's practice our verses again!

Grace – “And suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly host, praising God and saying "Glory to God in the highest, peace on earth, good will to men.” (Luke 2:13-14)

Anthony – I have given him a print out of the whole passage and we will see how far we get. ;)

Blessings this Christmas Season,
