Remembering my father

As Father's Day is quickly approaching, I spend time thinking, as I do every year (and every day), about my amazing daddy.  As I look at my husband and the father of my children, I see many things that remind me of my dad. I breath a prayer of thanks daily that my husband met my daddy before God took him home and that my love is following in the footsteps of my dad as a father and husband.

3 Days Old with my Daddy
1981

1982

1983

This is a repost of a poem I wrote about him and that day God called him to heaven.

"In Honor of My Father"

Love.

Laughter.

Joy.

Unwavering Faith.

Discipline.

Just one look was all I needed.

Bear hugs and sloppy kisses.

Old movies and musicals late at night.

Jurassic Park at the movies with friends.

Ice Cream Cones from Braums.

Driving lessons at a local park.

Cool fall evenings at high school football games.

Senior year.

2 AM knock on the door.

Despair.

Can't breathe.

Where is my Bible?

What to read?

"Just open it, precious one."

"Remember."

"I AM. . . ."

"A father to the fatherless and a defender of widows." (Ps. 68:5a)

Peace in the midst of a grief filled storm.

I miss you, Daddy, every day and look forward to the day when I will see you again.
