Heart of Christmas Advent Devotional for Kids Day 12

NOTE: These devotional will mainly be verses and questions. My goal is to ensure that my children understand the meaning of the verse and it how it relates to the true celebration of Christmas. I will listen to their response and lead our discussion based on their thoughts, so in reality the questions may change. I will base my responses on their level of understanding of the verse we are discussing. We will then hang the ornament depicted each day on our special little tree.

See my original post detailing the inspiration behind my Heart of Christmas Devotional HERE!

Day 12 – The Shepherds

Today's Verse:

"And there were in the same country shepherds, abiding in the field,
keeping watch over their flock by night."
(Luke 2:8, KJV)

We see a change in scene in this verse. Jesus is born and now we are suddenly transported out of Bethlehem.

Who are shepherds and what do they do?

Did you know Jesus is the Good Shepherd? Do you think it just a coincidence that the very first people to see and believe in the Jesus as the Messiah or Savior of the world were shepherds?

"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." (John 10:11, NIV)

Who are the sheep?

Memory Verse

(As a four year old, Grace will have two verses or parts of a verse to work on each week. Anthony will have larger sections to memorize because he is nine and memorizes verses at a rapid pace. NOTE: I learned this passage in the KJV which is not the usual version I memorize in now, but it will be forever embedded in my heart in KJV. Plus, for this particular passage, KJV has such a lovely poetic flow to it, thus my children will learn it in KJV as well.)

Let's practice our verses again!

Grace – “And suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly host, praising God and saying "Glory to God in the highest, peace on earth, good will to men.” (Luke 2:13-14)

Anthony – I have given him a print out of the whole passage and we will see how far we get. ;)

Blessings this Christmas Season,
