The Truth, Some Prayers, and God's Amazing Provision!

Well, friends, Anthony has legally been our son now for a little over one month and I'm sure you are wondering how we are doing. I mean the truth about we are doing, right? Not that obligatory answer we all give when someone asks "how are you doing?" and you respond with as much energy as you can muster, "oh, great!", because we all know no one really wants the long drawn out real answer to that question and most of us don't want to respond any way.

Alright, here is the truth. We are doing great, most of the time. Are there days were I want to say,
maybe not so great today? Of course, but in reality as we walk with our Father daily, we are doing great! There are moments of frustrations and moments of triumph! Our frustrations generally surround the language barrier. It gets really tiring trying to communication via a sometimes unresponsive and silly iPhone app, but then I think, what if we didn't have this app! I can't even imagine!! Praise God for iTranslate!

We have three major priories we are working on right now. I would ask that you join us in lifting these up in prayer.

1) Prayer that our understanding of each other would continue to grow and for patience for all of us. Anthony knows the word patience well now and even reminds me to be patient when iTranslate is being difficult! LOL. We are working on English daily and he is improving daily. It is amazing to watch the process unfold. When he came to us, he knew a lot of vocabulary but there was a lack of understanding in sentence structure, verb placement, etc. Well, just this past week, he is putting together quite a few sentences and practicing conversations which is so cute to hear! Also, I am so thankful that God connected us to our Mandarin speaking English tutor who is coming once a week!

2) Prayer for our bonding and attachment as a family. Anthony is very attached to me, and we are all working on connecting with him. If you are considering adoption or are in the process, you must read Dr. Karyn Purvis' book, "The Connected Child", and also try to find one or two others to go through the accompanying Bible study, "Empowered to Connect". It is a must read for all adoptive parents, foster parents or anyone working with children from hard places. Dr. Purvis explains in detail how necessary and important it is for babies to be held, responded to and loved as their brains develop. Our precious babies missed out on this importance piece of development while in the orphanage, so it is up to us to recreate those moments for them. We are holding Anthony, loving on him and letting him know that he is ours! With Adam and Grace out of town over the weekend, I really become aware of his great need and desire for this attachment. He craves that love and attention so it has been a blessing to be able to spend time together just the two of us. Next, it will be Adam's turn to spend one on one time with him. I am so excited to see what the next few months have for us! Please pray for this process!

3) Finally, I would ask for your prayer as we work on learning and understanding his personality and character bent. As our communication improves and our understanding of who he is, we will be better able to train him up in the way he go so that when he is old, he will not depart from it (Prov. 22:6).

Final Thoughts for Today:

I must be honest with you and tell you that I have been a little frustrated at the times the past few days while Adam has been out of town with Grace trying to converse with him, but then I realized my focus wasn't on our heavenly Father and I was trying to hold onto my frustrations rather then letting God carry it for me and as soon as I let it, I felt as if this burden had been lifted! Thank you, God.

Our God is truly an awesome God! As I was going over all our adoption expenses today for submission to our Lifesong account for our final reimbursement for our trip to China, I uncovered the ultimate provision of God. Would it surprise you to know that God provided almost to the dollar, the exact amount needed for our adoption?!!  I truly never doubted that God would provide because we knew this was His will for us, but to see it in writing before me today ABSOLUTELY TOOK MY BREATH AWAY!!!!

"After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, 'Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!' All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying:
Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom,

Thanksgiving and honor and power and might,
Be to our God forever and ever.
Amen.'" (Revelation 7:9-12, NIV)

  1. That is so wonderful to read Suzanne! Thank you for sharing :) We have a graphic novel version of The Hobbit that Anthony might really enjoy. Also, Myles loves the comics Tin Tin and Asterix. I wonder if Anthony would enjoy them too!
