|Grace's current favorite book, The Very Hungry Caterpiller|
It happened! Our first day of school! Right now we are on a bit of a fishing expedition to ascertain his knowledge level when it comes to math. Grace had a doctor's appointment so I gave Anthony an addition and subtraction worksheet to do while I was gone with the supervision of Adam's brother, Taylor, who is visiting. He blew through the subtraction without any trouble but something was off with his addition (ok, ok, I gave him triple digit addition). We learned after watching him do some addition for us that he was forgetting to carry and didn’t understand what to do with the 3rd column. He knows now!
Tomorrow we are going to focus more on English. However, he has his big doctor’s appointment tomorrow where they will draw lots of blood for his vaccine titers and check him over in general. No one likes to be poked and prodded so please keep him in your prayers.
Our first post placement visit is fast approaching. Our social worker scheduled it for next Tuesday! I feel like we are just starting to get our footing! I got a packet in the mail that made me tired just looking at it so I’ll tackle that tomorrow and fill you in on the joys of post placement.
I have been pondering today how adoption is difficult and amazing at the same time. Working through language barriers, discipline, understanding and love is not an easy path, but oh how it opens your eyes to the beauty of our own adoption by our heavenly Father. He patiently works through our misunderstandings of Him and His nature, our tantrums, our testing of His limits and boundaries as He is carefully molding us into the beautiful vessel He desires us to be in order to bring glory to His name! I am so thankful He has taken us on this road and am excited to see how He works in our lives as well as our precious children.
“You, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.” (Is. 64:8, NIV)
