Orphan Sunday - God's Heart for the Fatherless

Two Aggies from Oklahoma, two children on the other side of the world, ONE AMAZING GOD = blessings beyond imagination!

Two Aggies from Oklahoma

a Little Girl named Grace Lihua

a Boy named Anthony Jianyou - we are coming soon to get you!

"A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families . . . " (Psalm 68:5-6a, NIV)

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” (James 1:27, TNIV)

Orphan Sunday is a day for me to reflect on the amazing things God has done in our life through adoption and to remember the 165,000,000 orphans across the globe in prayer. Not only has God brought us our precious children through adoption, but He made us heirs with Christ through adoption! His plan far exceeds any plan we could ever conceive. After looking at the back side for so long, it is amazing to see the beautiful tapestry He is creating with our lives through adoption.

“The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”  The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” (Romans 8:15-16, TNIV)

God does not call everyone to adopt a child, but He does ask us all to share in His heart for the lonely and the fatherless.

“While every adoption experience is unique, one word seems to speak to the ways in which children and families are brought together: convergence. I believe once people open or lend themselves to the idea of adoption, God works in miraculous way to bring out the desire of His heart: the grand orchestration of setting the loneliest of His children in a love, caring family.” (Fields of the Fatherless, Tom Davis)

This quote really sums up what I have been thinking about lately. God has provided everything we have needed for both our adoptions and continues to amaze us with our current adoption. He blesses us daily through the joy our children bring us and through family and friends who have come along side of us through our adoption processes and as we learn to parent these precious children.

I am currently obsessed with Matthew West and this song just really hits it home for me today.  I urge you to listen to the song while reading the lyrics listed below.

There's a child
Been abandoned out on the street
Now she's waiting for someone to be her miracle

There's a wife
Somewhere halfway around the world
Begging God for a little girl she can call her own

Well, worlds collide
And colors fade
And a man and wife
Brought their little girl home today

And there's one less
One less
One less broken heart in the world tonight
Yeah, there's one less
One less
There's one less broken heart in the world tonight

We are called
To the widows and the orphans
But it's easy to ignore their silent cries
Oh, but every single time
Somebody reaches into the darkness
Makes a choice to help the helpless
They let mercy save a life

And there's one less
One less
One less broken heart in the world tonight
Yeah, there's one less
One less
There's one less broken heart in the world tonight

Well the truth is we are all the orphans
But love has left the 99 just to find the one

So let worlds collide
Colors fade
Let your life
Be the miracle today

One less
One less
One less broken heart in the world tonight
Tonight I know there's one less
One less
One less broken heart in the world tonight

One less child without a home
One less birthday gone forgotten
One more soul rising from the bottom

One less night alone
One less child without a home
One less birthday gone forgotten
One more soul rising from the bottom

One less
One less
One less broken heart in the world tonight
