The Meledeo Family is Expanding!

Dear Friends and Family,

"A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families"
(Psalm 68:5-6a)

Adoption is our calling and God’s plan for us.  It all began with a strong desire to have a child to love and to use our strengths and spiritual gifts to teach and raise up children for the Lord.  After many years of trying to get pregnant, God began to work in our hearts helping us to realize that He had children for us that would not grow inside my body, but rather in our hearts.  Our children were and are waiting for us across the world.  God first brought our two and half year old daughter, Grace Lihua, into lives and she has brought us more love and joy than we could have every imagined.  Now, God has brought He Jian You (or “You You”, pronounced Yo-Yo) into our lives.  Again after much prayer and guidance from the Lord, we believe You You is the next child He has for us, growing our family from three to four.
There are so many children, particularly in China, who never get the chance to live in a home where Christ is revered as Lord and savior of all mankind, and we count it a special blessing, honor and privilege to be a part of that educational process in a child’s life.  Just as He adopted us because of His great love for us, so He has called us to take part in the same beautiful expression of love as we expand our family and are afforded the opportunity to share His love.

But when the fullness of time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a virgin, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying ‘Abba! Father!’ Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God. (Galatians 4:4-7)

“Adoption is perhaps the most powerful depiction of the Gospel found in the Bible. We are all orphans, born under the curse of sin. By the sheer grace and mercy of God, those who come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ are adopted as sons. Redeemed sinners are adopted as sons ‘through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, to the praise and glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.’” (Ephesians 1:5-6) (Albert Mohler

Meet You You, the precious boy God has for us in China!  It will be about 6-9 months before he joins our family but we are so excited to know he is the boy God has for us!

You You was born in Shanghai on September 23, 2004 and is waiting for us in a foster home where he has lived since he was baby. He is a part of the waiting child list and has some deformities in his right hand and arm.  God has also provided us with a wealth of information on him thanks to Pat Marcus, pediatric physical therapist affiliated with our adoption agency.  She has been to China to meet with Gladney's waiting children on more than one occasion and has had the opportunity to meet with him at length.

After her first trip, she said the following, "You You is a smart sweet boy. He was proud and confident when he told me he achieved top marks in school. He enjoys making jokes and making all the adults laugh. Since I could not understand the jokes he drew pictures and quizzed me on what each picture was. His thumb is missing bones and his forearm is shortened, but he is comfortable and confident with his body and uses his hand and arm well. He was comfortable with asking me why I wanted any bit of information. His favorite activities were drawing and painting. He told me he does not like to eat too much because he worries his tummy will explode. He is really an amazing boy who demonstrated his great sense of humor and maturity and confidence well beyond his age."

Pat recently traveled again to China and took some questions we put together to ask him. On this trip, she met his foster mom, and Pat was really impressed at how she has inspired him to be confident with his deformity.  We asked the following questions:

What is your favorite subject in school?  He said Chinese language and gym.  He is taking English and made several statements to her in English with good pronunciation.  His grades from this term are 98 in English, 93 in Math, and 99 in Chinese.  He was very excited and proud of his grades!

What are your favorite activities out of school?  He said he is an artist and enjoys painting animals and the future.  He likes to make paper airplanes.  He told Pat very clearly in English that he likes to play "football" (most likely soccer to us).

What are your favorite foods? He told her in English that he likes apples, bananas and oranges and noodles.

What are your thoughts on adoption and having a sibling?  He said he would like to be adopted and have a brother or sister.

He had questions for us which we will be able to answer when we send him a care package!
What does the family like to do for playtime?  What foods do we like?  How old are Daddy and Mama?  What does Daddy do?  Do I have grandparents?  Do they live together with the family (as in China)?

Pat also had the opportunity to observe him with other children and said he exhibits leadership skills and encouraged the other children who seemed hesitant, nervous or unsure about meeting with her.

We are so appreciative and thankful for all of your prayers and support and would ask for your continued prayers as our adoption process moves forward. We are specifically asking for your prayers for the following:

1)   Prayer for the safety, health of You You and for all four of us as we prepare to become a family. Prayer for the preparation of You You’s heart to join our family, for wisdom and patience for us as he integrates into our family, and for his foster family as they prepare to say goodbye.

2)   Prayer for a speedy paperwork process as we wait for our boy and that there would be no problems with the paperwork and for our patience as we wait.  We are almost finished putting together our dossier and from that point it will take about six months or so before we can travel to China.

3)   Prayer for sources for the remaining funds needed for our adoption. God provided every dime we needed for Grace’s adoption through generous donations and our savings and we look forward to witnessing God’s work in this adoption.

4)  If you are half or full marathon runner, you help us support our adoption by joining "Team You You" in the Chosen Marathon in New Braunfels on October 27, 2012!

Blessings to all,

Suzanne, Adam and Grace
