Tales of Casting with a 2 year old . . .

Well the journey of casting has been an interesting one.  In order to work on correcting Grace's mild club foot, we spent four weeks in casting, one week per cast.  Every Sunday, Adam and I took off the current cast (which was quite an interesting task), then I took her to her physical therapy while I kept her still for 45 minutes to get on the new cast.  That is a fun task with a two year old, but our physical therapist is amazing!  Thanks to all our amazing and faithful prayer warriors through this process.  With each casting, as I turned my anxieties on Monday over to Him and asked for prayer from our friends and family, the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension carried us through!

Let's go on a photo tour! :)

Cast #1 - The most difficult part of casting consists of three elements: keeping a two year old still while the cast is being put on (this takes about 45 minutes), continuing keeping a two year old still and off her feet all afternoon while the cast is drying, and then removing the cast.  As you can see, the first try at removal was an interesting one (Adam was absent during this, so what you see, points directly to my frustrations. :) )

Cast #4 - Hooray!

AFO Time!

Now that the casting is completed, Grace is wearing an AFO which was created to fit her foot and leg perfectly to continue the process of increasing flexibility in the ankle and foot.  She started out wearing it all day every day for about three weeks.  We have since moved to just wearing it in the afternoon and through the night with the hope that she will eventually just wear it at night!

Grace picked out the design and color herself!

  1. What a trooper and praise the Lord that it has gone so well. Also, I LOVE the picture of Grace playing dress up with the purse and umbrella!
